Gracefully Diminished
Living with a Traumatic Brain Injury
An accident changed my life forever in 2012.
This book outlines what I learned through hundreds of doctor appointments, tests and therapy sessions. I’m not a doctor – just someone who was hit by a shuttle bus while walking across the street and was able to eventually find peace and happiness.
Hopefully this will help someone achieve Peace a little bit quicker, or help a friend or family member gain some Understanding.. Maybe someone will learn they aren’t alone…that other have gone through something similar and found a good outcome.
This is my mantra: Understand. Accept. Live Gracefully.
Reviews
This book is well worth reading. It details the personal experience of a frustrating, worrisome and incredible journey. It has helped me to better understand the effects of a family members cognitive and memory issues.
I recommended this book to a family member suffering from a TBI for years with no help or understanding. She read to page 37 and responded to me, “My mind is screaming YES”. It’s what she needed to read. She had been to many doctors and endured numerous tests and questions only to be told to seek mental health help. Thank you for putting the struggle into words for those on the outside and inside of this issue to better understand. I definitely recommend this book.
As a caretaker for my wife with a TBI, I am constantly learning new ways to assist her. This gets right to it and although it is a quick read, it has a lot of valuable information. Coping examples were very helpful and the point is made that this is a long, never-ending game. I recommend it for those who experienced the traumatic brain injury and those who care for them. Thanks!
